Speech-Language Pathology

Paramount’s speech-language pathologists evaluate, diagnose and treat speech, language, cognitive-communication and swallowing disorders.  Common disorders include apraxia, dysarthria, stuttering, aphasia, dysphagia and other medical conditions such as laryngeal cancer or Parkinson’s disease.  These disorders may result in poor nutrition or dehydration; less enjoyment of eating, drinking or social activities; embarrassment or isolation in social situations; and risk of aspiration - which can lead to pneumonia and lung disease.  Speech-language pathologists also have a variety of treatments to address cognitive-communication impairments related to attention, memory and problem-solving.
